Educational Background
- Ph.D., 1963, Indiana University
Research Interests
Rudman's research career has centered on computer applications in exploration geophysics and (lately) on earthquake seismology in the midcontinent. His work in potential fields includes inversion and analysis of gravity and magnetics (Indiana), heat flow modeling (Hawaii) and shallow resistivity and GPR studies (Indiana karst). His work in seismics includes application of reflection data to seismogram interpretation, velocity analysis utilizing well logging data and synthetic seismogram generation. More recently, he has been a part of an Indiana University team of researchers investigating midcontinent seismicity. Data were obtained from a twenty 3-component seismometer array in southern Indiana and Illinois. Ongoing research involves location of magnitude studies of local events.
An example of a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) survey line obtained in south-central Indiana. Groundwater contamination in the area may be controlled by conduits associated with karst features such as those shown within the yellow rectangle. The scatter shown within the purple rectangle is related to a topographic low.
